Dipa Karmakar who secured fourth place in vault event at Rio olympics in 2016 have add one more feather in her hat of achievments. This time she won gold medal at FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup (in Turkey) with a score of 14.150. In her qualification around also she topped the score tally with 13.400.
Tripura pride, 24 year old Dipa Karmakar was making her return in competition after 2 years due to injury. This is her first medal in a world cup.
Dipa Karmakar in addition to her medal also qualified for balance beam finals after finishing third in the qualification round with a score of 11.850.
Prime Minister Narendra Modicongratulated Dipa on her effort. In a tweet made on Sunday, Modi said, “India is proud of @DipaKarmakar! Congratulations to her on winning a well-deserved Gold in the vault event at the FIG World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey. This win is a prime example of her tenacity and never-say-die attitude.”
Due to an Anetrior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury after Rio Olympics and Dipa had undergone surgery. Initially she was confident of making a comeback at the Commonwealth Games but rehabilitation took more time and she had to miss the Gold Coast event.
